What are wearables?
What are wearables?
Wearables can be divided into passive and active wearables. You can read about the difference between these two here. AdornPay sells passive wearables. Here, it is not immediately visible that it is a wearable. Everyone will think it is just a regular piece of jewelry, while you can use it for payments and as your digital business card. The wearable contains, just like a debit card, an NFC chip, which is integrated into the jewelry. The advantage of a passive wearable is that you can transform a 'fashion item' into a payment item. Important information about the warranty and lifespan of the chips in our wearables can be read here.
How does payment with a wearable work?
The only thing you need to do at the checkout is hold your wearable within 2 centimeters of the payment terminal, just like you normally do with your debit card or mobile phone. With our ring, you pay by giving the payment terminal a fist bump (don't forget to give a fist bump to the person behind the checkout as well).
In the Netherlands, you can pay contactless up to 50 euros without entering a PIN on the payment terminal. Above this amount, you need to enter a PIN on the payment terminal itself. You can find the PIN in the Curve or VIMpay app.
If you lose your wearable, you can easily block it in the Manage Mii app, just like your debit card. The advantage of our wearables is that it looks like a ‘normal’ piece of jewelry. When someone finds the jewelry, it is not immediately obvious that it is a payment jewelry. This makes misuse of the wearable very unlikely.
Prepaid or linked to your account
You can link your wearable to your payment account, many people find this the most convenient. In the Netherlands, you can currently only directly link a credit card or new debit card (with card number) to your wearable (via Curve). Unfortunately, directly linking a Maestro debit card is not possible.
If you are a customer of Rabobank, Bunq, Knab, SNS bank, and Triodos, you can already request a new payment card (debit card with card number) from the bank and easily link it directly to your wearable!
A number of banks in the EU support the direct linking of your bank account to your wearable, so without using Curve. Click here to see the full list of banks.
MuchBetter
Because AdornPay If I would like everyone in the Netherlands to be able to pay with our wearables, you can also choose a prepaid option "MuchBetter". This is similar to a prepaid credit card or a prepaid SIM card for a phone. You can load the card by depositing an amount onto the card (via the MuchBetter app). You can then pay with your wearable until the amount you deposited is used up, after which you can recharge the wearable again.
More information about the prepaid option MuchBetter and activating your wearable can be read here.
Curve & VIMpay
After purchasing your wearable, you can link it to a Curve or VIMpay account.
Curve is a (free) wallet that combines multiple payment cards in the mobile app. This allows you to make payments with one (virtual) card.
Note: Currently, you can only link credit cards & the new debit cards (with card number) to your Curve wallet. Unfortunately, an old Maestro payment card cannot be linked yet.
If you are a customer of Rabobank, Bunq, Knab, SNS bank, and Triodos, you can already request a new payment card (debit card with card number) from the bank, which you can easily link to your wearable immediately.
VIMpay is an app where you can create a free, virtual prepaid credit card. Ideal if you do not have a credit card.
Extra feature
In addition to being an easy and quick payment method, you can also share your personalized digital business card with this. By simply holding your wearable against someone else's phone, your business card will appear and can easily be added to the contact list.
